My mother and fellow artist.
From the time I could pick up a crayon she began
teaching me all she knew of art. There was no
"going outside of the lines", "no heavy scribbling",
and absolutely "no blue faces". Strokes were neat
and blended, crisp and clean to the edge.

After a time, coloring books were beginning to be
made with tracing paper inside, she'd have me trace
everything I could get my hands on. Then after I was
really good at tracing, she brought home a ream of
xerox paper and said "Now, draw what you've been
tracing". Not only did I draw what I had been
tracing, we moved on to drawing comic strips out of
the Sunday paper, interesting clips from magazines
and then on to portraits of famous people.

All I ever wanted to do was be able to draw like her
one day and become an artist....Well, sometimes
dreams do come true.
Thanks Mom for all your hard work, love and
persistence,
Alicia Miranda
